Studios and had been donated to the city in 1975. According to a 1989 Los Angeles Times article, the collection contained more than 38,000 books, magazines and newspapers, and clip files of more than 2 million items. At that time, research was done for a fee of $50 an hour. The collection closed in 1999. In this photo, department supervisor Mary Ann Grasso looks through a file cabinet. The masks on the top of the cabinet were said to have been used by background actors during the making of a "Planet of the Apes" movie.
