1982 - Burbank Temporary Aid Center
1982
A volunteer rests a cardboard box container atop a sign reading “Burbank Temporary Aid Center (BTAC), Hours: 10a.m. 5p.m., Monday – Friday” in front of a site at 269 East San Jose Avenue. Founded in 1974 to address a growing need, the Burbank Temporary Aid Center provided a centralized location to assist individuals and families needing food, transportation, showers, laundry facilities, and emergency shelter. From the beginning, BTAC operated from various locations throughout the city including the founder’s garage and various vacant residential properties. This 1980s photo of a small bungalow on East San Jose Avenue represents BTAC’s fifth location before moving to its current site at 1304 West Burbank Boulevard in 1995.
