<dc:description>The American Schools at War program was a program during World War II run by the U.S. Treasury department, in which school children set goals to sell stamps and bonds to help the war effort. This image is of students and teachers standing on the steps of Bret Harte Elementary holding a "Schools at War" banner. This effort took place between 1942-1945. This image came from a collection of images donated by the Delores Palmer Estate. She was a BUSD employee for many years and authored the book "A History of Burbank."</dc:description>
