1966
Animal Control Superintendant Fred DeLange (left) and unkown gentleman help former Burbank animal shelter dog Higgins put paw prints in the wet cement at the Patsy Award Animal Walk of Fame at the Burbank animal shelter. Higgins was a puppy when trainer Frank Inn adopted him from the Burbank animal shelter in 1960. The shaggy little dog appeared as "Dog" in the television series 'Petticoat Junction'. He was then chosen for the title role in Benji (1974). The PATSY Award was originated by the Hollywood office of the American Humane Association in 1939. The letters are an acronym, and stand for Picture Animal Top Star of the Year. The TV and Movie Animal Walk of Fame was established in front of the Burbank Animal Shelter, honoring certain early recipients of the PATSY Awards.
