From notes on photo: “H.B. ‘Jerry’ Bank 1953-1961." His Burbank Leader obituary read : "H.B. 'Jerry' Bank, mayor of Burbank in 1956, and a city councilman from 1944 to 1960, died Feb. 19 in Hemet, of natural causes. The 76-year old Wisconsin native will be cremated following services at the First Presbyterian Church, 515 Kimball Avenue, in Hemet. Bank was swept into office in Burbank in 1944 on an anti-gambling platform. A founding member of the city's Crime Prevention Committee, he headed a successful movement to unseat three incumbents in an enffort to 'clean the city up' and prevent gambling interests from coming into town. The former mayor was active in the Burbank Masonic Lodge, the Burbank Shrine Club, and many other civic organizations during his 26 year residence in the area. He was in the industrial real estate business, was co-founder and president of the Burbank Multiple Listing Association, as well as president of the Burbank Realty Board. In 1958, he was voted Realtor of the Year. Bank was also a former president of the Burbank Chamber of Commerce and president of the Optimist Club. Harmon Bennett, Burbank city manager from 1956 to 1965, said Bank had 'a deep sense of civic obligation and gave generously of his time and talent to, as he used to say, hopefully leave a place better than he found it.' Vice Mayor Mary Kelsey said Bank was well known throughout the region 'and well thought of.' The former mayor is survived by his wife, Alfrieda, and a brother."
