1960s - Verdugo Park
Verdugo Park was dedicated on March 16, 1944. Half of the four-acre site was donated to the city in 1943 by developer/philanthropist Fritz B. Burns and the rest purchased for $1117.18 per acre, according to the Los Angeles Times. In this photo, labeled as being from the 1960s, teenage girls play volleyball in the gymnasium. They wear shorts, jerseys with numbers on the back, kneepads, high socks and tennis shoes. On the wall of the gym is a floor-to-ceiling mural featuring a woman holding a child. From notes on photo: “Verdugo Park, 60’s”.
