1964 - Asphalt Plant
1964
The gravel pit/asphalt plant on Clybourn Ave. was opened in the late 1930s and put up for sale in the late 1960s, according to the Los Angeles Times. The site was operated by the city's Public Works Department and more than a million cubic yards of raw material was extracted from the pit and used to cover "all Burbank streets, sidewalks and curbs." Much of the machinery used at the quarry came from older mines operated at the turn of the 20th century. In this street view photo, a sign on top of building reads: “City of Burbank, Asphalt Plant, 3130 N. Clybourn.” From notes on photo: “Asphalt Plant 1964”; “City – Misc”; and “8-10-64 Picture of Asphalt Plant located at 3130 Clybourn Avenue showing front view from street."
