Vintage Burbank School Photos

1880s - First Public School in San Fernando Valley
The first public school in San Fernando Valley was located where the Van Norman Reservoir stands today. Back of photo is stamped "This photograph is furnished on condition that whenever it is used credit will be given to Historical Collections: Security First National Bank." This image came from a collection of negatives donated by the Delores Palmer Estate. She was a BUSD employee for many years and authored the book "A History of Burbank."

The original Burbank High School building, which was built in 1908, was remodeled and became John Muir Intermediate School. This image was from 1920s. The school was located on San Fernando Road between Grinnell Drive and Cypress Avenue. This image came from a collection of images donated by the Delores Palmer Estate. John Muir Junior High School was renamed from Burbank Junior High School in 1928, it was located at the corner of Third Street and Grinnell Drive. 1922 - Luther Burbank Elementary School
Luther Burbank Elementary School was built in 1916 on the northweast corner of Magolia Blvd. and Third Street across the street from the grammar school. The school was for children in the primary grades. In 1941 it was converted into the Adminstration Building (District Offices). This image came from a collection of images donated by the Delores Palmer Estate. She was a BUSD employee for many years and authored the book "A History of Burbank."
