From City Council Meeting Minutes: Mayor Marsha Ramos invited Sharon Cohen, Library Services Director, to briefly describe the Burbank Student Exchange Program, and specifically the trip of 13 Burbank students and two chaperones to Ota, Japan.
2007 - International Sister Cities Conference
From Burbank Leader: "Mayor Marsha Ramos just returned from the International Sister Cities Conference in the now bustling metropolis of Korea’s second biggest city, Incheon. Touring war memorials and sampling new food resulted in a promise to strengthen business ties, foster economic development and continue the student exchange program outlined in the Sister Cities Accord, which Ramos and six other international representatives signed, she said. The trip to Korea offered Ramos the opportunity to meet many of the officials who have been instrumental in fostering harmonious relations between the two cities, including Incheon Mayor Sang-Soo Ahn, Ramos said." He and the students made a Skype call to the South Korean students of Baekryeon High School on Baekryeon Island where the Burbank students will spending one night during their trip." The gift from Yoo Jeong-bok, the mayor of one of Burbank’s oldest sister cities, was symbolic of the origins of that relationship, when a student from Incheon sent a letter to Burbank seeking English-language books so residents of that country could learn American language and culture. But it also signifies Incheon’s selection as World Book Capital for 2015. The visit is the first time a sitting mayor of Incheon has visited Burbank in 30 years."
